During the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2014, Bulgaria's city of Varna attracted more than 400,000 guests. The event took place between April 30 and May 27, 2014, with the ships being in Varna between April 30 and May 3.
For the first time in the history of the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta, the most beautiful sailing vessels gathered in two Russian Host Ports, Sochi and Novorossiysk, along with Varna (Bulgaria) and Constance (Romania).
In the Regatta, Russia was represented by four famous sailing vessels of class A: Mir, Kruzenstern, Sedov, and Nadezhda. Bulgaria was represented by Kaliakra and Royal Helena. The President of Bulgaria, Rosen Plevneliev, served as the patron of the festival days in Varna.
During the days from April 30 to May 3, 2014, around 30-35 ships arrived in the seaside capital, with 10 of them being the most prestigious class A vessels.
Visitors and participants of this unprecedented sailing event had the opportunity to take part in various activities, including a parade of sails, crew parades along the city streets, VIP receptions, entertaining activities for children, award ceremonies, and incredible fireworks.
The largest ship, Sedov, attracted thousands of visitors in Varna. This four-masted sail training barque, owned by the University of Murmansk, serves as a vessel for young cadets to train as officers, mechanics, and radio specialists. Sedov can accommodate up to 320 people on board, including a crew of 75 members. The sail training takes place during journeys of up to four months along European coasts, enabling cultural and economic exchanges with various ports.
