Boat, ship building and the traditions surrounding water-based communications have always been rich in Bangladesh. The Potia Shipbuilding Yard located on the riverside in Chittagong is one of the oldest and most traditional of its kind. The shipyard still applies age-old working methods and traditions in its day-to-day work; many of the crafts and ancient techniques have been passed down for hundreds of years from one generation to another. Sadly, because of new technologies, many of these crafts are now dying out. A few places like the Potia Shipbuilding Yard still use some of these old shipbuilding techniques.
