Tibetan marriage ceremony is one of the primary social institutions in Tibet. The practice of polyandry is very common in rural Tibet. Yet in the urban areas, the practice of Monogamy is more prominent. The marriage system has more closely associated with the social aspect of the life of Tibetan people rather than a religious life. Traditionally the marriages are arranged by elder members of the family members. The traditional way of Tibetan marriage would be of four stages; Matchmaking, bride-fetching, wedding, and bride’s returning home.
